暑くてたまらないよ!

Lesson learned from today? Lots of establishments in Japan are chains - don't try to use them as landmarks to navigate your way around. Also, in Summer have lots of water on you and refill at every available opportunity! From these comments more astute readers may guess that today I went exploring and got a bit lost (I did something like the equivalent of trying to get to Southampton City Centre from Woolston and ending up in Lyndhurst). I think I better understand the mentality of Japanese court ladies of old - on a day like this lounging around the house in paper-thin robes writing poetry would go down a treat.

I started off walking down a random road and seeing where it took me. It took me many places, but mostly residential rather than to shops and things like that. Though I did find quite a few pleasant parks, and some fancy bigish houses. Took quite a few pictures this time; good scenery all around. Also, Japan (or at least Nagoya) can be surprisingly quiet. I passed quite a few streets on my way back that were practically uninhabited. A lot of houses have quite a distance between their front gate and the house proper, too, so it can all look quite eerie in the dirk. That will give you an idea of how long I was wandering around, and the fact that the underground station I eventually used to get home was the last one of the line will give you an idea of how far I wandered. A somewhat exhausting day.
